Sports Marketing Unveiled

As members of the Advertising Federation of Columbus, FOX Sports Ohio helped coordinate and sponsor the AdFed's recently monthly event. The corporate luncheon featured a panel of heavy hitters in Ohio sports to discuss "Sports Marketing Unveiled." 

Over 100 local advertising and sports professionals attended the luncheon on Friday, Feb. 11 at Columbus Crew Stadium.

FOX Sports Ohio broadcaster Dionne Miller moderated the panel.

Speakers included: Cincinnati Reds Vice President of Corporate Sales Bill Reinberger; Cleveland Indians Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing Vic Gregovits; Cleveland Cavaliers and Quicken Loans Arena President Len Komoroski; Columbus Blue Jackets Executive Vice President of Operations Larry Hoepfner; and Columbus Crew President & General Manager Mark McCullers.The event was a tremendous success and professionals left the luncheon with a better understanding of sports marketing and how businesses can become partners of their state's professional sports teams.

Local High School Basketball Coaching Controversy Gets National Attention

FOXSportsOhio.com jumped on a local sports story when reporter Zac Jackson got wind of a coaching controversy at a Northeast Ohio high school.

The story began when the Richmond Heights (15-0) vs. Independence boys’ basketball game was postponed due to the coach being accused of verbal harassment.
  • Jackson’s article recapping the conflict was the most-viewed article for FOXSportsOhio.com since the beginning of 2011.
  • The site saw an 8X increase in unique visitors relative to the site’s typical weekday traffic after Jackson's article was featured on MSN.com.

Students Experience FSOhio


On February 7, 2011, FOX Sports Ohio hosted a group of 11 students for a “Career Day” at our Broadview Heights office and studio.

The students are participants in a 10-week journalism program called “MyMedia.”

Coordinated by MyCom, a nonprofit organization focused on youth development, MyMedia is a program which engages high school students as reporters and exposes them to a variety of communication mediums: blog, podcast, television, video, writing, presentations, etc.

During the FOX Sports Ohio Career Day, the MyMedia students toured our offices and studio and spoke to our production crew about various job opportunities in TV production.

The group had the chance to visit with Senior Vice President and General Manager, Henry Ford and learn about running a regional sports network.

They also had the chance to hear from Cavaliers broadcasters Campy Russell and Dionne Miller, who cohost Cavaliers Live Pregame show.

FSOhio & Blue Jackets Give Fans All Access & Build Facebook Community


The Columbus Blue Jackets and FOX Sports Ohio last month launched the "Blue Jackets All-Access Pass" sweepstakes, which gave followers of their Facebook pages the chance to win great team experience prize packages.
  • The month-long sweepstakes garnered a 60% increase in Facebook fans for the network and has increased and improved Jacket fan interaction on the social site.

FSOhio Heads to Goodyear for Reds Spring Training

As the Cincinnati Reds enter their second Spring Training at Goodyear Ballpark in Goodyear, Arizona, FOX Sports Ohio invites fans to join us on a “March to Opening Day” by televising four (4) Reds Spring Training games this preseason, beginning with March 7th when the Reds take on the Milwaukee Brewers at 3pm EST in Goodyear.  Several members of the FOX Sports Ohio’s Reds broadcast team will play a role throughout the network’s television coverage of Reds Spring Training. Thom Brennaman will split play by play duties with Jim Kelch, each calling two games.

Color analyst Chris Welsh will call three games while Jeff Brantley will do one game. Jeff Piecoro and Jim Day will also share the role of sideline reporter.

For the March 7th game, FOX Sports Ohio will share the game telecast with the Brewers’ TV home FOX Sports North. During the game, Brennaman and Welsh will share the booth with FOX Sports North’s announcers.

FOX Sports Ohio will also continue its “March to Opening Day” with extensive coverage of Reds preseason on FOXSportsOhio.com. Hall of Fame baseball writer Hal McCoy will provide exclusive analysis of the Reds from Goodyear throughout the month of March with feature articles and online chats.

Live Streaming of Greater Cleveland Sports Awards on FOXSportsOhio.com

The Greater Cleveland Sports Awards is the biggest sports show in Northeast Ohio, honoring the best and brightest of the area’s amateur and professional sports. This year, FOX Sports Ohio is joining the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission in this celebration on February 10 at the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel.

The Awards event will be video streamed live on http://www.foxsportsohio.com/ and marks the second year in a row where the event will be available live online.

Presented by Medical Mutual of Ohio and Collection Auto Group, this star-studded event features fine dining, sports celebrities and silent auctions that help benefit the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission.

FSOhio Welcomes Two New Faces

Barry McBride and Stephanie Mileham
have recently joined FOX Sports Ohio.
McBride has been named Digital Content Manager of FOXSportsOhio.com and Mileham is the new Marketing Manager of FOX Sports Ohio. As Digital Content Manager, McBride will focus on making FoxSportsOhio.com a daily destination for Ohio's devoted sports fans, utilizing Fox's unique video assets and original sports coverage from the site’s experienced team of sports reporters.

Prior to joining Fox Sports Ohio, Barry served as a Network Development Coordinator for Scout.com and was also the founder and publisher of the Orange and Brown Report, one of the nation's top independent team publishers both on the web and in print.

As the new FOX Sports Ohio Marketing Manager, Mileham will assist in planning and executing the network’s marketing and promotional efforts including advertising, onsite events and social media.

She joins FOX Sports Ohio after most recently serving as Vice President of Event Marketing of Game Day Communications in Cincinnati and the Special Events Coordinator for the Flying Pig Marathon in Cincinnati.

Prior to joining Game Day Communications, Mileham was an account executive WKFS & WVMX for three years as well as Asst. Director of Premium Seating and Community Relations for the Cincinnati Bengals.

Reds Broadcast Team: Welcome Sean Casey and Jim Kelch!

While FOX Sports Ohio prepares for what will surely be another thrilling season of Cincinnati Reds baseball, we're excited to announce our 2011 Reds broadcast team.

Thom Brennaman will return for his fifth season to serve as the main play by play voice for the majority of FOX Sports Ohio Reds telecasts.

Chris Welsh, entering his 19th season with FOX Sports Ohio, will once again be the lead color analyst for the network’s Reds telecasts.
Also returning to the booth throughout the season will be color analyst Jeff Brantley (fifth season.)
