FOX Sports has teamed up with the band O.A.R. to take their hit song, "This Town" into its sports towns. As the centerpiece for college and pro sports both nationally and regionally, the song is the focus of FOX Sports Ohio’s Cincinnati Reds promotions and has also been used for Cleveland Cavaliers and Columbus Blue Jackets games.
“Music conveys passion and elicits excitement or emotion and I think sports does the same thing,” said Alex Slemc, the director of marketing for FOX Sports Ohio. “And ‘This Town’ elicits a lot of hometown pride with your team."
Formed in 1996 in Rockville, MD, O.A.R. (an acronym for the band's full moniker, Of a Revolution) coalesced around lead singer/rhythm guitarist Marc Roberge, lead guitarist Richard On, saxophonist Jerry DePizzo, bassist Benj Gershman, and drummer Chris Culos. Roberge had known Culos since childhood; he also played in local bands with On and Gershman. DePizzo, who hails from Youngstown, met the other Maryland natives at Ohio State University. The band is planning tour stops in Cleveland and Columbus this July.
